Julian Trevelyan is a British musician born in 1998, who in summer 2021 was awarded the Second Prize, the Mozart-Prize and the Audience Prize at the 15th Géza Anda Piano Competition in Zurich. He had already won the renowned Concours Long-Thibaud-Crespin at the age of 16; in addition, he is laureate of competitions such as the CFRPM – Competition-Festival of Contemporary Music in Paris, the Dudley in Birmingham, Dumortier in Belgium, and Kissingen KlavierOlymp in Germany. Sponsored by Patrick Masure, he currently studies with Rena Shereshevskaya at the École Normale Alfred Cortot. Julian is an Alumnus of the Lieven International Piano Foundation and underwent his initial training as a pianist with Elizabeth Altman and Christopher Elton. He has performed more than twenty different piano concertos, including the first version of Tchaikovsky’s Op. 23. In Moscow, he gave the first Russian performance of Lucas Debargue’s Concertino for Piano and Orchestra. Julian also studied composition and is composer in residence of the Ensemble Dynamique. He takes the position of first violinist in a string quartet, plays historical instruments and is a member of a Mandarin a cappella choir. Moreover, he studied musicology at Oxford University and obtained a degree in Geology. In his spare time, Julian enjoys reading, cooking and sports.
